As part of the Foundation's Connecting Art Histories initiative, a research team organized by the Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Buenos Aires is undertaking a series of research seminars entitled Materiality between Art, Science and Culture in the Viceroyalties. Art historians, conservators, and conservation scientists from across Latin America are working together to gain new understanding of the materials and meanings of artworks made across the region from the 16th-18th centuries. Seminar organizers will also develop a database of pigments, dyes, resins, and other materials present in viceregal works of art, which promises to become a key resource for the field.
